Energetic Lives Often Require Skilled Orthopedic Intervention

For this patient, OAM has given him several leases on an active life!

May 12, 2017

Greg Bereski, an active athlete, has been a patient of Dr. Robert Geist at Orthopedic Associates of Middletown for many years—or as Greg might put it, for many injuries. “He has put me back together several times,” he says about Dr. Geist, a specialist in workers’ comp, sports medicine, and arthroscopic surgery who Greg has had on his recovery ‘team’ since the late 1990s.

Greg’s most recent injury occurred at his workplace and required rotator cuff repair. Dr. Geist’s review of an MRI prompted him to schedule surgery. “I was back to all my activities in less than six months,” Greg says proudly. Earlier procedures he has had under Dr. Geist’s care included several arthroscopic knee surgeries and two shoulder surgeries. In fact, despite a healthy sense of humor, Greg may not be entirely jesting when he says that the most important result of all his surgeries with Dr. Geist is the fact that his golf game has not been adversely affected.

“Dr. Geist explains everything to me,” Greg shares. “He always makes sure that he is extremely clear on what he plans to do. If I don’t understand something, he explains it to me in a way that’s completely clear.”

One of the founders of OAM, Dr. Geist was a partner in an orthopedic practice in 1983 that eventually became Orthopedic Associates of Middletown. He obtained his medical degree in 1978 from the Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago, and completed his internship and orthopedic surgery residency training there. Middletown was next.

Dr. Geist stays current with advanced technology and skills (he obtained recertification with the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in both 1996, 2006 and 2016)—not unlike his requirement to stay current with the active sports life of Greg Bereski. For his part, Greg is even considering a knee replacement in the near future to help continue to assure a retirement as active as his past.
