"My goal is to create a healing plan focused on each patient's unique needs to maximize their mobility, functional skills, and independence" - Dr. Arpad Fejos

At an early age, Dr. Arpad Fejos, had the good fortune of being aware of what he wanted to do with his life. Injuring his knee in high school he was told by his family doctor that the injury would require surgery. "I really didn't want surgery, so I asked for other options," Dr. Fejos says. His doctor referred him to a physiatrist, a physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation.

The experience was so positive, in fact, that by the time his treatment concluded Dr. Fejos was certain of his future career path. "I appreciated the nonsurgical and nonnarcotic approach that enabled my swift recovery," he says. "I wanted to help patients as I had been helped." The winding course of his treatment would lead him to settle on medicine before he'd graduated high school.

Today, Dr. Fejos is a practicing physiatrist, specializing in treating back and neck conditions with nonsurgical intervention. On a typical day, he sees patients with a variety of injuries and conditions, from neck pain to herniated discs and spinal stenosis - helping them to become as functional and pain-free as possible. He also performs X-ray guided spinal injections.

"I love my work," Dr. Fejos says. "I've seen many patients who are frustrated as they move from doctor to doctor, searching for a solution to their condition but only receiving medications to mask the pain instead of cure it. As a physiatrist, I can pinpoint the problem and provide alternative treatments - from nerve blocks to chiropractic care planning - that help patients better control their pain without drug dependency."

Dr. Fejos joined Orthopedic Associates of Middletown in 2005 after serving at a large orthopedic practice in Atlanta, Georgia. "I wanted to work with a smaller group practice where I could cultivate strong relationships with my colleagues," he explains. "OAM was the right fit. I appreciate our team approach to patients, focusing on achieving the best clinical outcomes by treating each patient as a whole person."

The aspects of physical care that drew him to the medical profession and physiatry in particular back in high school continue to shape Dr. Fejos's professional life today. It's not enough to treat patients. It's much more important and meaningful to help patients find the root source of their injuries and eliminate the problem by addressing the source.

Dr. Fejos makes sure to spend every minute out of the office with his family. He's also an avid sports fan, and when time permits he enjoys skiing and cycling, and follows Formula One Racing.
