Shoulder injuries are common, but now, there’s a way to reconstruct the shoulder without having to replace it. When Joe Faraci fell while walking his dog, the pain was unbearable.

My right shoulder was hurting before that, but I think that was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back,” says Faraci.

A closer look by surgeon Dr. Michael Kuhn with Orthopedic Associates of Middletown revealed extensive damage. “The rotator cuff is gone at this point,” says Dr. Kuhn. He confirmed a previous attempt to repair Joe’s rotator cuff failed.

Join Us In Welcoming Podiatric Surgeon Dr. Adebola T. Adeleke To Orthopedic Associates Of Middletown.Oct 3, 2016

"Every patient is unique and being able to listen and empathize is the best way for me to customize the most effective recovery plan."

The word 'unique', according to Webster, means being 'one of a kind.' To paraphrase an old axiom, if you turn to that page in the dictionary you might see a picture of Dr. Tee Adeleke, the newest member of the team at Orthopedic Associates of Middletown. Not only does the word work well to define his background and career, but is also a key identifier of how he sees his role as an orthopedic caregiver:

"I relate to each patient individually because each one is unique. Every patient has his or her own specific ailment which in turn affects their quality of life in very different ways. Knowing their unique situations and being able to empathize is the best way for me to customize the most effective recovery plans."

Dr. Adeleke D.P.M, who specializes in arthroscopic foot and ankle surgery, reconstruction, joint replacement, and foot and ankle trauma, was born in Canada of Nigerian parents, grew up in Louisiana, studied in North Dakota, Iowa, Pennsylvania and New Mexico, and chose his specialty after sustaining a severe ankle injury while playing college sports. Having spent quite a bit of time in rehab and with orthopedic experts, he decided to devote his life to helping others with similar injuries return to active, comfortable lives.

A Patient's Experience. Surgical Skill is Only Half the Story.Sep 21, 2016

"Dr. Hicks gave me my life back!" - Erika Haynes, Patient

While all physicians listen to their patients, it takes a special character trait to truly hear them, according to orthopedic spine surgeon Dr. Alfred K. Hicks. The difference is in the way confidence and understanding are developed between doctor and patient. "My overriding goal is to establish complete trust and solid communication with each of my patients, and to then help them heal," says Dr. Hicks, who joined Orthopedic Associates of Middletown in the summer of 2015. "I want them to get back to what they love to do as quickly as they can."

That can be a tall order given that neck and spine-related problems can easily get in the way of doing what they love to do, from walking and working out, to vacationing and playing with the little ones.

"Dr. Hicks was so reassuring, and I felt completely safe in his care," notes Erika Haynes, a 45-year-old patient. "My neck and back pain was so severe that it caused an almost 80 percent loss of mobility in my left arm." As her pain increased steadily over several months, her primary care physician referred her to Dr. Hicks at OAM. After a comprehensive assessment, Dr. Hicks recommended replacing three discs in Erika's spine. "He gave me my life back," she says. "I didn't know how much pain I had been in until after the surgery, when I no longer had pain."
